The best place to stay by far!! We arrived to such a friendly welcome at reception. We were also upgraded to a Tree Lodge Room. It was amazing.. we would totally recommend it.We were shown right to our room and told of walks around Franz Josef and also of Monsoon Restaurant and Bar.The setting among all the native trees and ferns was beautiful. The room was lovely..the bedding and beds was perfect. Great shower and bathroom facilities. All the little extra touches of coffee machine and the yummy breakfast delivered to our room was just great. We were trying to figure out if we could fit in staying another night we enjoyed it so much. We had dinner at Monsoon Restaurant and Bar by the open fire..great atmosphere and the food was perfect. The staff were friendly, fun and really efficient. We are looking forward to coming back again for a few nights next time. Thanks so much for your great hospitality.

Very nice enclosure and Excellent Staff! We stayed at their Gecko Cottage 3 from 2-4 June 2018. We were impressed by the room we booked. They have a mini kitchenette with Oven and provision of crockeries and utensils. It was a very cosy stay. I must however commend the staff there, Ms Shinead) who helped me. We checked out and i left my wedding band (?! Yes my wedding band with a diamond solitaire ring) and a fashion ring in the room. I realised it only after driving to Haast (2.5hrs drive). I was panicking big time and we called the Rainforest up. She picked up my call and also picked up my rings. I told her that we will drive back to take it from Haast. She realised we were enroute to Wanaka and offered to drop it off for us at our hotel so that we dont have to drive back. I cannot imagine how blessed we were to meet such an angel?! She really made our day! Just how lucky are we to get our ring back! Thank you Shinead…. ️

What a great place. We stayed in a... What a great place. We stayed in a gecko cottage and there was so much space and you really felt like you had some privacy. The heating is fantastic for the colder nights and the onsite restaurant and bar is one of the more popular in town. Right in the middle of town. Would recommend anyone to stay here.

I am a solo traveler and I totally enjoyed my stay in my very own one bedroom cottage super friendly staff from the reception to the bar and waiters and waitresses at the onsite restaurant and bar. plenty of onsite parking and great location tucked away in the native forest. A extra big thank you for the room upgrade:):) A very warm and welcoming place to stay!! + the free WiFi is supreme!!. Negative: Wish I was staying longer!!.

Genuine New Zealand experience in Glacier Country In the town of Franz Josef on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island is a treasure waiting to be discovered by any jaded traveler. In a natural bush setting, literally metres from the town, is the Rainforest Retreat: A New Zealand jewel amongst this wonderland at the base of the Franz Josef Glacier. For my wife and I, both New Zealanders who have seen almost all of our magnificent country, this recommendation is simple: the well-priced Rainforest Retreat should be considered a national treasure. We started with a warm welcome from Becky, Jess, and Sinead, and, after that, everything about our stay was a comfortable pleasure.

Excellent quality in great location We stayed in one of the lodges and were not disappointed. Very clean and excellently presented and comfortable for 3 people. The standard of accommodation is very high, with comfortable beds and pillows, good kitchen facilities including free fresh milk, coffee maker and milk frother. There are fluffy towels and complementary slippers too. The staff are very helpful and the setting in rainforest style environment is stunning. Close to the main part of the town for walking to bars, restaurants etc. Highly recommended.
